Research

Since our inception, we have always invested our efforts in research and documentation work. Some of our focus areas have been listed below:

Natural Dyeing: A significant part of our research is in natural dyeing. We explore traditional methods, experiment with local plants, and work to refine our dyeing processes and colours.

Spinning: We also spend time experimenting with different spinning tools, like the older Amber charkhas, to see how they work best with our local wool. Understanding different fibres and how they blend is another area we investigate, along with the potential of dyeing fibre before spinning.

Weaving: We also research our artisans’ skills and techniques to see how we can support and improve their work. This includes gathering their feedback on the wool we provide. In terms of design, we research local motifs and look for ways to bring them into modern products. Our interns often help with this and with developing new product ideas.

Wool processing: We have been working with like minded individuals, organisations, and collectives to devise ingenious ways of wool processing which minimises the use of water and are suitable to decentralised processing. We still have a long way to go, but we are hopeful that we will get to a stage where the wool does not have to travel hundreds of kilometers to get cleaned, carded and combed.

Environmental awareness and conservation is a key driver of our research. We are exploring renewable energy, water recycling, and ways to minimise our environmental impact.
